eeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order ty Mayor
Gibbons in the Pearland Bank Building at 7:30 P. lv. irdth the folloviing
city officials and guests in attendance:

The minutes .of the rrseting of November 21, 1963 were read and approved.
IL,ayor Gibbons asked for the various committees to report on their findings.
The Committee appointed to investigate the shooting range sites reported that
it was their recoarendati on that- all the citizens in the immediate area be
contacted by the s hooting club by petiti or. to =deter gine t'2e it feelings regard-
ing the shooting range. iMayor Gibbons instructed the committee to so advise
IV':r. Newmann., president of the gun club.
Mayor Gibbons next read a petition from the F=a.rland Independer_t`Schhol
District to close a Portion of Jasmine Street bet-vieen t':_e east line of
Grand Boulevard and the best line of, Park Avenue `adhd abandon said road for
school ;purposes. The attorney for -the --s_chool district read an instrument
conveying to the school ownership of the duly plotted and .designated park.
A motion was mode by D. IL.Smith that the city adopt an ordinance closing one
block of Jasmine Street between Grand Blvd. and the west line of Park Avenue
as requested by the school board.- N.'.oti on seconded by Nolen. Counci 'man
Smith withdrew his motion to enable the lawyer for the school and the city
attorney to prepare an ir_strument'that will reserve utility right of way for
the ci ty. when the street is closed for traffic. All Aldermen agreed with this
procedure.
Alderman Sanders made a motion that the courcil adopt a_resolution
commending
the school board on their fine job being done on school problems.
I;sayor Gib'hons next discussed the water district operation and the work that
has transpired to provide a smooth method of the city assuming operation of
the water district.
Mr. Wlalsh discussed the progrdss made between the engineering f irms of the city
and the water District on agreeing who vri 1 do the various phases of engineering
and agreeing on the mebfhod of _ ��Aior work perfdrmed.
A resolution was made by Gene Sanders that the city.agree to earmark sep250,000.00
minimum of the first bond money toward improving the existing Drazoria County
s'4'ater Control and Improverrent Pistrict' No 3. Seconded by I(egley.
This resolution being contingent on the writer district = 3 merging with the
city of Pearland. All Aldermen voted "Aye" with no "I'•"oe s .
A motion vias made by John Kegle„r that the Engineering Firr:_s of V*valsh ar-d
Pic Claren and Wyatt C. Hendricks be retained to do er_girnering work as out-
lined by contract between the tvro' parties subject to the immediate assumpti_ ;n
of the water district by the city of Pearland. Sec onded
All Aldermen. voted "Aye” with no ."Does".
Mayor Gibbons next discussed the steps required for the ;district to "ta.lce-
to per.,_it the d ty to assume the district.
The next topic of discussion was the drainage and storm" swyer project on Orange
street. It vras agreed that the council should wait for.-.action,_by`Uhe 'sub-
divider before authorizing financing for part of the proje ct "2 -
hwayor Gibbons next presented Yx.-Nalsh's request for part of the financing for
work on the long range road plan. Tom Alexander made a,_.motion that R:r.i'.jalsh
be paid $'1,500.00 for long range road planning, subject to these funds "being
applied against erigineering bonding a t)rofed in the futi re for this purpose.
