A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE CONTINUED FEDERAL
FUNDING OF THE CLEAR CREEK FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Pearland ("City") is a home rule municipality located in
northern Brazoria County, Texas; and
WHEREAS, Clear Creek is a major drainage artery that carries floodwaters through
Pearland in Brazoria County to Galveston Bay; and
WHEREAS, the City has been severely affected by structural and non-structural
flooding along Clear Creek for over 30 years; and
WHEREAS, the Clear Creek Flood Control Project, authorized by Congress in 1968, has
been slowed due to uncertainties in the economics and hydraulics of the project, and changes in
costs, real estate, and environmental impacts; and
WHEREAS, the President's proposed, budget for the upcoming fiscal year includes
continued funding for the Clear Creek study being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City Council supports the continued federal funding for the Clear
Creek Flood Control Project and urges the members of Congress to support provisions for the
same in the proposed federal budget.
