1970-03-24 PEARLAND LIBRARY BOARD MEETING MINUTESThe first meeting of the Pearland Library Board was held Tuesday, March 24, 1970, in the Pearland State Bank Building. The Chairman, Betty Alexander, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m., with all seven Board members present. The following officers were unanimously elected: Secretary Nina Sanders Treasurer Jack Idoux Vice Chairman Pat Crawford It was decided that subsequent meetings would be held on the second Thursday of the month, with the Board keeping itself flexible in the event a joint meeting is necessary with City Council. Report of Library Committees: Government Help. Herb Carlston will write Mrs. Van Horn of the Brazoria County Library, stating that we have been authorized by the City of Pearland to seek County help. He suggested that Mrs. Van Horn would like to have several such letters before approaching the County Commissioners for the needed increase in the County Library budget. It was Mr. Carlston's suggestion that 3ach Board member send such a letter. It was decided to invite County Commissioner Jordan to the next meeting to enlist his personal support in securing Minutes of LYorary Board Meeting --1 March 24, 1970 Page 2. all available County help, and in any other areas in which he might contribute. Mr. Carlston will investigate the feasibility of applying for Title II funds at this time. Foundations. Jim Tucker suggested that we purchase a list of Foundations that we could solicite for contributions. He will investigate methods of sending a form request to the Foundations on the list. Book Contributions. Pat Crawford reported that a set of Luther Burbank books has been donated to the Library. She suggested that the Rosenberg Library may be interested in purchasing the set and that we have them appraised, possibly by Miss Ard of the State Library system. Mrs. Crawford also reported that some storage area has been donated by the Pearland Plumbing Company, but that insects are being attracted to the books. She suggested that the books be sorted and that everything not up to Library standrads be sold in a book sale. Site and Building Committee. Jack Idoux reported that nothing further had been done on securing a site since the joint meeting of the Library Committee and City Council. He still felt that the Lion's Club Little League park could be secured if a. suitable location were found for the Little League, either by the City or by the Library Board. Minutes of Library Board Meeting March 24, 1970 Page 3. The feasibility of leasing space on an interim basis will be looked into. No other committees had a report. It was suggested by the Chairman, and unanimously agreed to by the Board, that the Board serve as the Co- ordinating Committee and that each Board Member serve as Chairman, or in the case the Committee already had a Chair- man not on the Board, Co-chairman of a Committee. The following appointments were made by the Chairman: Finance - Jack Idoux and R. J. Novasad. Foundations - Jim Tucker and Bobby Williams Government Help - Herb Carlston Local Financial Contributions - Nina Sanders Book Contributions - Pat Crawford Site and Building Facilities - Jack Idoux and Jack McGuff Publicity - Norma Flory. • The Secretary will compile a rooster of Committee Members after the next regular meeting.
