The third meeting of the Pearland Library Board w��AWV8
May 14, 1970, in the Pearland State Bank Building with all
seven members present.
The Site and Building Chairman, Jack Idoux, asked to be
first on the agenda to show a possible temporary site to the
Board. The Board went to the building formerly occupied by
the Pearland Cue Club on Grand Boulevard and inspected the site.
Mr. Idoux reported the building co>>ld be leased for a post of
approxi.metely $4125.00 including taxes and insurance and m uld
possible be paid in yearly installments. We would also be
expected to maintain the building, pay utilities and janitorial
service. The Site CorarAttee recommended that we secure a com-
mitment from the owner of the bufl.ding, ar.(l, on securing the
cpmmitment that we recommend to the City Council that we lease
the btii ldi nor for a period of three years with a five-year option.
Herb Carlston moved we accept the recommendation of the
Site Committee, it was seconded and passed unanimously.
Jim Ticker moved that the Burd authorize the expenditure
of approximately $25.001 for 5!0 hf tests of letterhead stationery.
The motion was seconded and carried.
Book Contributions - Pat Crawford reported bo,)k s can be
leased from the American Lending* Library. She will take this
up w' the County Librarian: and make a recom-mendation to the

Foundati-ons Committee - The Committee is workirig ori a draft
of the "fir,t appeal" to a prepared list, of Foundations tc be

Publicity Committee - There was a picture in the paper of
the Presidents of the Lions and Rotary Clubs presenting checks to
Betty Alexander. Tte Jaycees would like to present a check to the
Library Fund and they were invited to send a representative to
the next Board Meeting to make the contribution.
Local Contributions Committee- Plans will be stepped up
to raise as much money as possible during the summer months. As
soon as a firm commitment is made on the bizil.ding and agreed to
by City Council, an appeal will be made for each family to make
an initial contribution of $1.00 per person per family. The
funds raised by this Committee in the near fiitlire will be used
primarily to furnish and open the building.
It was agreed by the Board that Septemt-er 1, 197.) will be
the target date for opening the Library.
The Chairman will contact Commissioner's Court this week
to ask to be put in thins calendar year's budget.
The treasure+will work up a budget to present to City
Council.
A name for the Library was discussed. Nina Sanders moved
the Library be called the Pearland Community Library and the
Bank account be called the Pearland Community Library Fund. It
was seconded and unanimously passed.
It was suggested the Brookside Village Council be contacted
tp see if we might be included in their budget.
Copies of the minutes of the former meeting were passed to
each Board Member. Corrections or additions will be made at the
next meeting.
