The Pearland Community Library Board met at the Library building on
July 11, 1974. Members present were: Betty Alexander, Carolyn
Gilmore, R.J. Novasad, Nina Sanders, Herb Carleston, and Nina
Heflin.
(Minutes of the last meeting were not available for reading.)
Betty Alexander introduced information on library consultant for
the board's consideration. Fee would be approximately P500.
Treasurer's Report --R. J. Reported that since 1974 only limited
donations have been received. Two expenditures were made for
supplies for use in the mail -out on library hours, sent out
with bank statements. Balance in account, 11,540.91.
R. J. also reported on the proposed budget for the next year.
He submitted copies of a letter written to the City Council with
the proposed budget needs; a 24% increase has been asked. Total
budget for 1974-75 --83150-00-
The board expressed its appreciation to Herb Carleston for the
work done on the mail -out of library hours. It was reported that
the Friends of the Library are having movies for the community
children each Wednesday.
In discussing the building and grounds it was determined that the
cleaning is not being properly done, inside or out. The building
is still in need of paint. R. J. volunteered to discuss these
problems with Silly 'Wolfe. Also the need for a fire extinguisher
and street signs for the library.

New Business - City council has voted $3000 in Revenue Sharing for
upgrading and repairs for the library.
It was announced that the librarian, Mary Grubbs was leaving at
the end of July, and the new librarian will be Dee Dee Williams.
Mary Grubbs listed these needs for the libraryt
Basic Selection Tools -Public Library Catalog, $65.00; Books in
Print, $70.00; lighting, especially around the outside and back.
R. J. suggested a Texas Flag be added. Also suggested was a small
card catalog. Carpeting for the library was also discussed. The
book sale of surplus books held during business hours at the library
brought in X50.00.
