The meeting was called to order by Rosalie with the following in attendance:

Nancy Sallee, Rosalie Olah, Dede Williams, Dave Beckman, and Ed Fondren,, The invocation
was given by Tom.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved as read,

$171,54
78.72 $68.70
63.19 .94 interest
$313.55 checking account 69.64 savings account
Dede gave the statistical report and stated that 600 registered for reading club,
To date 12,000 volumes more than last year were used. The Yellow Rose Hotel melodrama
was well attended, held in community rooms, not the library. Dede reported job program
workers are excellent and willing to work, Mark Storm has done rodeo rope tricks for
the children.
Budget workshops have not yet begun, Dede related, and the budget has not been finished
due to a death,
Bettye asked Tom if we could have a marquee type sign, but there are no funds for that
now. Dennis, Jim Bost, and Tom favor a permanent sign and one has been designed by
Jack McGuff; however, funds have been needed for landscaping and parking lot. Nancy
suggested the Friends take this on for a project. Bettye suggested it might be suitable
for a Parks and Recreation project. Tom said perhaps we might use the extra concrete
and brick left over from construction of the City Hall building and that he would look
into this. Dede asked Tom whether we might get a covered walkway and Tom said that
while it might"be done eventually, the present budget has been exceeded already.
Nancy asked if there might be reserved parking spaces for library patrons, so that
there might be quick access for book return.
Dede said Ann Marie Hurst is a new employee. She asked for recommendations for the
adult program, as Sept., Oct., and Nov., are open, In 1987 we will have a genealogy
program again.
Bettye inquired how custodial service was doing. The time of service for library remains
the same but the library needs someone more often than the Community Center, The
added custodial service needs to be included in budget.
The building has not leaked recently,
Steve reported on the county 1987 budget that he would request 6% but no budget increases
seem likely, The West Columbia building is awaiting shelving, which will hopefully be
completed the second week in July. The system is using a new plan for electronically
buying books which should be more effective on keeping track of books and up-to-date
information on them. The book sale in Sweeney for spring, 1986 made $817,05 which will
be used for promitional materials on a county -wide scale, 1,584 new books have been
added to Pearland Library, Circulation in Pearland has been ver., strong and shows good
growth.
MINUTES OF FEARLAND LIBRARY BOARD (Cont,)
June 17, 1966 7:30
The book distributor for the county is Baker and Taylor, which is used because of
their low bid of 42% discount, The loss rate on borrowed books is about five for
every thousand, mostly because of families which move. The.loss of five books is
tracked or called a bad debt. As to the question of whether to charge for a library
card, the policy is to keep cards free of charge as long as possible, since library
service should be as free as education. Dede stated our library has only a 2% loss,
and 98% of books are returned on time.
Nancy reported that the Friends, major membership drive is in September, for which
they have Ron Stone coming,
Tom is hoping the growth factor will give a decrease rather than increase in taxes
for the budget year October 1st to September 30th, Tom has displayed his rock collection
for the library.
Respectfully submitted,
Judi/Demec4 Rosalie Olah, Chairman
