She found the small upward swing encourag- ing. Dede said pre-registration for adult programs helps attendance as it also gives the library phone numbers so attendees may be reminded. Recently offered color-image programs and I.R.A. program have been well attended. Two genealogy programs are upcoming, while March will feature two gardening programs, one by a Teas nurseryman. Nancy said a friend wants to donate some genealogy books to the library and Dede said she would be glad to accept them. The Angleton Library houses the county's official genealogy collection. The display case now features rocks and minerals from the Clear Lake Gem and Mineral Society, with a brochure advertising their upcoming show. Texas Library Assn. Con- vention will be held in San Antonio this year, with 1987 designated by Congress as the Year of the Reader, Dede informed the board. Bettye will talk to Ron Wicker about the sign for the library since Gary Jackson is no longer with the City of Pearland. Dede will speak to Mr. Wicker about having a sidewalk from the library to the new city building. The board walked outside to view the lay-out of the construction. Bettye said a new county director .Ear.the library has not been named. She suggested we should periodically make a list of small items which need repair in the library so that upkeep won't fall behind. She further reported the county library board did meet with Commissioner Billy Joe Plaster. Brazoria County will lose $850 million worth of assessed value for this year. Budget cuts combined with demands on the budget placed by new federal requirements make the budget situation serious. Respectfully submitted, 4-4b, iJudy Diemecs Rosalie Olah Secretary Chairman
