Present were Dave Beckman:, Richard Tetens, Bettye Alexander, Dede Williams, Nancy Sallee, and Judy Demecs. Treasurer Nancy Sallee gave the report as follows: $ 120.73 old balance 1200.00 contribution from HEB $ 1320.73 balance The board was pleased to hear that since the June meeting there has been a major contribution of $1200.00 given by H. E. Butt Company toward the magazine indexing system, and a promised contribution of $2,000.00 from Wal-Mart Discount Cities. The library's present subscription to a magazine index expires in January, so nothing would need to be put into effect for the indexing system before then. Dede showed statistics from June, when circulation was higher than ever. The summer reading program, with Billie Garrison's assistance, enrolled 1,527 children, and 800 children finished their first ten books. September is library card campaign month, so applications for cards were taken to Harris and Carleston Elementary Schools, where 300 signed up. Adult programs have gone well recently, Dede said. She further reported that the Jaycees have planned to donate to the library a percent of tickets sold to the Pearland night at the Astrodome event. New shelves have been set up in the library and books are being moved now. Dede asked for volunteers and has some new ones coming. Bettye moved that the board pay Dede's TLA dues for 1990. The motion passed. Bettye said that Dede and Rosalie's appearance at council meeting this summer was concise and informative. Rosalie said Mr. Earle of Earle's Jewelers has some books written in California during the Gold Rush era and might be interested in doing a program for the library. Dede said Mr. Earle had done some things for children. Richard reported the City Council did get a copy of board minutes in their packets of information. Whey Bettye spoke to Steve Brown, the budget hearing for the county had been held, and a letter concerning Dede's raise had gone to Commissioner's Court but no results were known as yet. Meeting adjourned. Ri.ec tfu llyn submitted, geta---‘110/6"( IF D- ecs, Secretary Rosalie Olah, Chairman
