(QCL) understands that we have been selected based on qualifications to provide Geotechnical Engineering Services for the project referenced above. This document has been prepared in general accordance with project information recently provided to us. Project Description We understand the project consists of the installation of 16 -inch diameter water line along portions of the west and east right-of-ways of State Highway (SH) 35 between F.M. 518 and Magnolia Road in Pearland, Texas. Based on information provided, we understand the water line is planned to be installed using both open -excavation and trenchless construction techniques. We understand the water line is planned to have flowlines ranging from about 5 to 10 feet below existing grade. Purpose and Scope of Services The purpose of the investigation will be to gather and analyze site-specific field and laboratory data for use in developing geotechnical engineering recommendations for the proposed project. The scope of services to accomplish this purpose will include: Houston 10810 Northwest Freeway Houston, Texas 77092 Tel: 713-695-1133 Fax: 713-695-0808 League City 400 Hobbs Road, Suite 210 League City, Texas 77573 Tel: 281-332-8378 Fax: 281-332-8399 gclabsggclabs.com Cost Estimate for Geotechnical Engineering Services 16 -Inch Water Line from F.M. 518 to Magnolia Road Pearland, Texas QCL Document No.: 39111.Revisionl Page 2 May 30, 2013 Field Investigation: The field exploration will be performed to obtain subsurface information regarding soil type, soil stratigraphy and groundwater depth. As requested, we plan to drill and sample sixteen (16) soil borings (spaced at intervals of about 500 linear feet) to depths ranging from 15 to 25 feet along the alignment of the proposed water line. Soil sample intervals will be shown on the boring logs. Soil samples will be evaluated in the field using a pocket penetrometer and/or SPT blow counts, depending on the soil type. Drilling will be performed using standard truck -mounted drilling equipment. The depth of groundwater will be observed during drilling and after completion of drilling. Based on our understanding of the water line alignment, we do not anticipate the need for traffic control. However, if traffic control is required, off duty police officers or sheriff deputies will be arranged for the borings. QCL will notify Texas811, a utility location service, to locate the primary utilities. This utility location service will only locate utilities within dedicated public utility easements. If underground utilities are known to exist in the vicinity of the borings, QCL should be provided the opportunity to review utility plans to avoid the existing lines. Laboratory Testing: The engineering properties of selected soil samples will be evaluated by our A2LA accredited laboratory. Laboratory tests may include, but not limited to, moisture content, unit weight, unconfined compression, Atterberg Limits, and percent passing the No. 200 sieve. Engineerinp• Analysis and Report: The field and laboratory data will be reviewed by an engineer who will also perform appropriate engineering analyses. The findings of the investigation will be presented in an engineering report prepared under the supervision of a Texas Professional Engineer. The report will address the following: • Logs of Borings, Plan of Borings, water observations, and laboratory test results; • Excavation and groundwater control; • Uplift and lateral earth pressures; and • Design considerations for trenchless construction. Cost Estimate for Geotechnical Engineering Services 16 -Inch Water Line from F.M. 518 to Magnolia Road Pearland, Texas QCL Document No.: 39111.Revisionl Page 3 May 30, 2013 Fees The fee for this project will be charged on a Lump Sum basis. Based upon the scope of services presented here, the lump sum fee is $9,300. This lump sum fee assumes that the site is accessible with standard truck -mounted drilling equipment. An additional charge will apply if boring locations are not accessible and any special equipment will need to be used. In addition, this proposal does not include a cost for traffic control. As mentioned previously, we do not anticipate the need for traffic control based on our understanding of the water line alignment. However, if traffic control is required, an additional charge will apply. Schedule A completed geotechnical engineering report will be submitted within three weeks following field -drilling activities. Acceptance We understand that this work will be authorized through a Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc. Subconsultant Agreement. We appreciate the opportunity to submit this document and look forward to the successful completion of the project.
