1962-03-01 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES159 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF THE PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL HELD MARCH 1, 1962 The regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order at 7:30 P. M. by Mayor Gibbons in the City Hall with the following City Officials and guests in attendance: Mayor . E. T.. Gibbons Aldermen David L. Smith, Tom Alexander, W. E. Parker and Victor A. Nolen Chief of Police Dan Sanders Attorney Jack Harrison Guests L. A. Blumer, BLLL Romoser & Janie PA Hector The Minutes of the meeting of February 15, 196Z were —' read and approved. = The Treasurer reported a balance of March 1,:.1962._ of $7,Z67.46. — A motion was made by Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alderman Parker that Ordinance No. 48 be adopted to supercede and re- place Ordinance No. 4 authorizing County of Brazoria to do work on the City of Pearland Streets without Liability or warranty on thepart of the County. Whereupon the question was asked and the motion carried with all ALdemen voting "AYE" with no "NOES". Mayor Gibbons discussed several complaints regarding vacant Lots needing cleaning and burning. This problem will be referred to the City Fire Marshal for action. Mayor Gibbons discussed applications for the position of a City pbLiceman. A motion was made by Alderman Alexander and seconded by Alderman Parker that acting Police Chief D. C. Sanders be made Police Chief effective March 1, 1962. Whereupon the question was asked and the motion carried with all Aldermen voting "AYE" with no "NOES". After a Lengthy discussion on hiring a patrolman, Alderman Nolen moved that action be tabled until next meeting time to permit Chief of Police D. C.Sanders to review the applications and make a recommendation bn the applicant for patrolman to be placed on duty for a 90 day trial basis. The garbage dump site was discussed at length regarding how to manage operation of the site and police the dumping. It was agreed that communication with Brookside and Manvel was necessary to find out if they want to participate in the project. Mr. Hartison discussed his search for a blanket bond for City officials and indicated he would try to get more information on such a bond by next meeting date. Mr. Harrison was instructed to prepare preliminary building code ordinance for the Council to review. 164 Chief of Police D. C. Sanders reported that Turner Lumber Company was instructed to move the small wood building out of the fire zone. A motion was made by Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alderman Parker that the attached bills be paid. Whereupon the question was asked and the motion carried with all present voting "AYE" with no "NOES". The meeting adjourned.at 9:30 P. M. CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS By: k E. T.
