The regular meeting of the PearLand City Council was called
to order at 7:30 P. M. in the City Halt by Mayor Gibbons with the following
City officials and guests in attendance:

Attorney Jack Harrison

The minutes of the meeting of November 16, 1961-were re-4d
and approved. ;
The Treasurer reported an expenditures and co tpctions and zz
stated that a balance of $1, 125.41 was on hand.
The Street and Bridge Department reported that sign8-9Xbng\
Highway 35 were installed adjacent to Morgan Company to prevent parking.
It was also reported that Mr. Marvel with the Highway Department has
inspected the approach of Austin Street to Highway 518 and agreed that a
culvert and street crossing should be prepared. The Highway Department
will put this project on their work agenda.
Mr. Ege and Mr. Singletary with the Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company discussed the problem of installing telephone cables
to Regency Park Su$division.
Aldeimah Nolen moved that the Telephone Company be permitted
to install the buried telephone cables from Galveston Avenue East along
Orange Street to Regency Park Subdivision with the Telephone Company
responsible for damage to all existing City, Water District and priviate
facilities. Alderman Smith seconded the motion. Alderman Alexander
Voted No. Aldermen Smith, Nolen and Parkee voted for the motion. The
Ayes being in the majority, the Motion carried.
Mayor Gibbons next discussed a need for a special election to
replace Alderman L. C. Hawkins. Mr. Harrison advised that unless a bond
issue or a major city election was coming up the special election could be
postponed until flee regular election in April 1962. Mr. Harrison advised
that the only way the office could be filled was by election. Mayor Gibbons
advised that this being the case, filling of the Councilman's position pre -
vu usly held by Mr. Hawkins would be filled at the regular city election in
April 1962.
Mr. Rose reported that field notes have been provided to Mr.
Harrison for preparing the dedication of Road right-of-ways to the City of
Peartand, said roads being located in back of Regency Park Subdivision.

Mayor Gibbons discussed Texas Municipal League plans to
increase yearly membership fees for each City. Mr. Harrison reaffirmed
the need for League help regarding city business.
Mayor Gibbons discussed the dismissal, of Chief Robertson
as PearLand Police Chief and the need for a replacement officer. Mr.
Conrad elaborated upon his qualifications as a policeman; 14 years for
the State of Texas as Tick Inspector; also worked part time as auxiliary
policeman for the City of.Houston.
A motion.was made by Alderman Nolen and seconded by
Alderman Parker to designate D. C. Sanders as acting Chief of Police,
with Chief's salary of $400.00 a month effective December 1, 1961
until such time as the permanent chief position is filled. ALL Aldermen
voted Aye with no Noes.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 P. M.
