All aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes". The secretary was
instructed to prepare a letter to Regency Park regarding
date of service on two lights for Regency Park Sub -Division.
A motion was made by Nolen and seconded by Hawkins
that Marvin Ellis be paid $90.00 for expenses to attend fire-
man's training school. All aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes"
Hawkins next discussed the phone situation and sug-
gested that there was a good possibility that Pearland could
lose the gross receipts taxes prior to ordinance passage.
Mayor Gibbons discussed recent talks with Mr. Singletary on
this same subject and suggested that we should grant a fran-
chise to the phone company. After a lengthy discussion it was
agreed that Mr. Lipic with Regency Park should be advised of
Pearland thoughts and position on the phone company ordinance
and request that he feel out the phone company regarding our
granting a franchise and the effect on our getting Houston
phone service.
Mr. Shannon discussed drainage district problems
and suggested that the City prepare a letter requesting storm
sewers be installed along Highway 518 and Highway 35. Mayor
Gibbons requested the secretary prepare the letter requested
by Mr. Shannon.
Mayor Gibbons also requested that the secretary
prepare a letter to the Commissioners Court setting out the
effectiveness of the Pearland Drainage Commissioners and ex-
pressing satisfaction with the way our tax drainage dollars
are being spent.
Marvin Ellis discussed the coming bond election to
buy County Fire equipment on August 19,1961. Mayor Gibbons
instructed the secretary to advise the water district that the
City expects all streets crossed by water or sewerage lines be
bored or ditches filled with stabilized shell and covered with
a minimum of 2" of black top.
Mayor Gibbons next discussed the streetsign survey
and the needed signs. The street and bridge committee was in-
structed in conjunction with the Chief of Police to review the
sign survey and decide which signs should be installed first.
They were instructed to report back within two weeks.
With no further business to attend the meeting ad-
joiirned at 10:40 P.M.
