1961-07-20 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL HELD JULY 20, 1961, IN THE CITY HALL The regular meeting of the-Pearland City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. by Mayor Gibbons with the follow- ing city officials and guests in attendance: Victor A. Nolen W. E. Parker T. P. Alexander M. W. Robertson Charles T. Gray Jack Harrison E. T. Gibbons D. C. Sanders Buddy Ellis -Fire Mafsliall ---, Ham Haskins The radio problem was discussed and it was agreed the Motorola be authorized to recondition a 100 watt tube type two-way radio for the police car and return the present set_to, Carter Communications as being inadequate. Mr. Parkerutade the motion, seconded by Alexander, that the purchase be made ... from Motorola for $290.00 and $33.00 installation fee. All aldermen present voted"Aye" with no "Noes". Jack Harrison discussed his review of insurance for the police car. As yet a satisfactory type policy has not been found and Mr. Harrison plans to investigate several other insur- ance companies for more acceptable type of policy. Nolen reported that the Highway Department has the equipment in stock for installing the street lights at the cross road of 518 and 35 and Mr. Marvel indicated the project was on their work schedule. The installations should be made in the near future. Mayor Gibbons discussed the street repair problem and questioned if any indication has been received from the County Commissioner regarding patch work. Mayor Gibbons requested the City Secretary to prepare a letter to the County Commissioners to shell part of County Road No. 113. Also to prepare a letter to the Railroad regard- ing the road crossings. Mayor Gibbons discussed the need for hiring a part time City Stenographer and suggested that Mrs. V. A. Nolen, having worked for the City on a gratis basis since incorporation, should be very familiar with City requirements and duties. How- ever, Mr. Harrison explained that Mrs. Nolen in a paid capacity was in violation of State statutes. Mayor Gibbons was instructed bye the Council to search for a part time Stenographer, on a part time basis. Mayor Gibbons next discussed the need for an adding machine and Mr. Parker was appointed to try to locate a machine. 124 Ham Haskins expressed a desire to take a fire training course with the requirement being that he be a City employee. A motion was made by Nolen and seconded by Parker that G. H. Haskins be appointed as City Fire Equipment Inspector for a yearly salary of $1.00 per year. All aldermen voted "Aye" with no "Noes".
