HELD FEBRUARY2, 1961, IN THE CITY HALL OF P.EARLAND
The February 2, 1961 meeting of the Pearland City
Council was called to order at 7:45 P. M. by Mayor Gibbons in the
City Hall with the following members and guests in attendance:

The minutes of the January 1,9, 1961,, meeting were
read, corrected and approved as read.
Mayor Gibbons asked for a report on the Street and
Bridge Committee activity. Mr. Smith reported that the County had
agreed to furnish the material for repairing the streets and agreed
to patch the street beside the fire station and scarfire and repair the
street South of Gulf Coast Prefabricators (Orange Street).
Correspondence was read and discussed regarding
Houston Natural Gas sales during 1960 with the City of Pearland.
Mr. Ege with the Bell Telephone Company discussed
their activities with the City of Pearland and expressed a desire to
obtain a franchise.
A motion was made by Alderman Hawkins and seconded
by Alderman Nolen that a franchise be granted to Southwestern Bell
Telephone Company from November 14, 1959 to January 1, 1965, for
gross receipts of 20/6 of local service revenue within the City of
Pearlarl, Texas. This franchise to supercede and take the place of
gross receipt ordinance No. 18, passed March 24, 1960, and re-
pealing all ordinances in conflict herewith. Aldermen Nolen and
Hawkins votes "AYE", Aldermen Parker, Alexander and Smith voted
"NO". The'NOES" being in the majority, the motion failed to carry.
Mr. Cannon, with the United Gas Company discussed
their operation within the City of Pearland along Clear Creek, and
inquired as to the possibility of obtaining a franchise to operate
within the City of Pearland. After due discussion, Mr. Cannon was
advised to prepare a rate ordinance and gross receipts ordinance and
meet with the Council at the next regular meeting..

A motion was made by Aide rman Smith and
-seconded by Alderman Nolen that minutes of the May 19, 1960
be amended to provide a $15.00 minimum fine for passing
violation to appear on the back of police tickets. All Alderman
present votes "AYE" with no "NOES".
The Corporate Recorders books were audited
and the meeting adjourned at 11:00 P.M. , there being no further
business..
