1961-01-19 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESM MINUTES OF THE PEARLAND CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD IN THE CITY HALL, JANUARY 19, 1961, The January 19, 1961 meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order at 7:30 P.M. in the City Hall by the Mayor with the following City Officials and guests in attendance: Mayor E. T. Gibbons Councilmen W.E. Parker, Tom Alexander, L. C. Hawkins, David L. -Smith, Jr. and Victor A. Nolen, Fire Marshal Buddy Ellis Attorney Jack Harrison The minutes of the January 5, 1961 meeting were read, corrected and approved, Mayor Gibbons discussed several items of un- finished business called to his attention by reviewing the minutes of the past few months. A bond has been obtained for the Chief of Police. A motion was made by Mr, Tom Alexander and seconded by Mr. Nolen that bonds be obtained for $1,000.00 for deputy policemen M. T. Fernandez, .Lynn Crawford and Fire Marshal Marvin Ellis. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion carried with all Aldermen present voting "AYE with no "NOES", Mayor Gibbons instructed the City Treasurer to withhold social security funds from Chief of Police Johnson's salary for the year 1960 and henceforth on a monthly basis. The garbage pick up franchise was discussed and it was decided to invite the Griffin Brothers to Council Meeting to find out what type equipment they plan to use and to complete the contract. Mr. Herridge discussed streets in his Shady Crest Addition, After a lengthy discussion it was agreed that Mr. Herridge will provide a bond for his addition to cover black topping his streets to meet city specifications. If the bond meets with City approval the streets will be accepted conditionally by the City pending completion of black topping, Mayor Gibbons instructed the Secretary to invite United Gas to meet and discuss the gross receipts ordinance on gas utility companies. Mayor Gibbons next discussed Mrs. Poe's desire to buy the alleyway immediately in back of the Church of Christ and immediately South of her property. After due discussion, the Council decided to defer action on Mrs. Poe's proposal until additional information is obtained on the plans of the Church of Christ expansion program.
