MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS HELD DECEMBER R5, 1960, REGULAR MEETING
The regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to order by
Mayor E. T. Gibbons in the City Hall at 7:30, P. M. With the following City
officials and guests in attendance:

The minutes of the meeting of December 1, 1960 and the special meeting
of December 8,, 1960. were read, corrected and approved.
Mayor E. T. Gibbons stated that Mr. Coffee with the American Canal
Company had met with him and discussed furnishing the City of Pearland
with surface water. He indicated they could and would furnish water at a
price of $ .02/M gallons. Mr. Shannon discussed the condition of the Brazos
water and its adaptability for residential consumption. Also the availability of
canals for supply locations was discussed. After a lengthy discussion by
Water Board Members and Councilmen it was agreed that a preliminary engin-
eering study should be prepared to compare well supply vs su3face supply and
determine the economic equalization point for the two supply systems. Mr.
Curtis F. Norris indicated his firm would prepare the preliminary study.
Mr. Jack Harrison presented a proposed fire zone ordinance and building
code requirements with the fire zone. After considerable discussion it was
agreed that the council should take the proposed ordinance under consideration
for consultation with uninterested builders. A motion was made by Mr. Parker
that the Church of Christ receive a lea From the City of Pearland for a
20/125 foot alley located between Lots 8 and 9 through 13 incluxive, Block 7 ,
Pearland Townsite. Said alleyway to be used exclusively for Chruch purposes
for a period of fifty (50) years at a paid up rental of $10.00 with the Mayor
authorized to execute a lease agreement on behalf of the City with the Church
of Christ. The motion was seconded by Alderman Hawkins. WHEREUPON
the question was asked and the motion carried with all present voting "AYE"
with no "NOES'
A letter from the Texas Municipal League regarding the Telephone
Company Ordinance passed by the City of Pearland was read and discussed.
It was decided that the Telephone Company should be invited to meet with the
Council again at a future meeting.
With no further business to attend to the meeting was adjourned at
10:45 P. M. subject to call.
