1960-11-17 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES77 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD NOVEMBER 17, 1960 The meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas , was called to order by Mayor Gibbons at 8:00 P.M. on November 17, 1960, in the City Hall, with the following City Officials and guests in attendance: Mayor E. T. Gibbons Alderman W. E. Parker Alderman D. L. Smith Alderman L. C. Hawkins Alderman Victor A. Nolan Attorney Jack Harrison Marshal R. V. Johnson Guests Charles T. Gray Guest M. N. MEGlathery The minutes of the November 3, 1960 meeting wer8 read and approved as read. Mayor Gibbons advised that the Winter meetings of the City Council will hereafter be called to order at 7:30 P.M. A motion was made by Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alder- man Parker that Ordinance #33 be amended to comply with State regulations regarding sale of fire works and provide an annual permit fee of $200.00 per location within the City Limits of Pearland, Texas, from December 1 through November 30th of each year or any fraction thereof and be subject to the super- vision of the City Fire Marshal. Aldermen Parker, Nolen and Mayor Gibbons voted "AYE". Aldermen Hawkins, and Smith voted "NO". The "AYES" being in the majority, the motion carried. Mr. Charles Gray and Mr. W. N. McGlathery, representing the Pearland Chamber of Commerce, discussed a joint project of the Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club to install Christmas lights on Pearland's main streets. WHEREUPON a motion was made by Alderman Hawkins and seconded by Alderman Nolen that the City give the Chamber of Commerce the right to use the City streets and alleys for Christmas lighting and decoration at the sole responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce for the year 1960 and ensueing years. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". Mayor Gibbons discussed the recent election of Mr. Henry Jordan as County Commissioner for Precinct #3. In view of Alderman Nolen's long acquaintence with Mr. Jordan, he considered it advantageous to the City of Pearland that Mr. Nolen should be a member of the City Street and Bridge Committee, whose actions woutd be directly associated with Mr. Jordan. This being the case, Mayor Gibbons appointed Alderman Nolen as a fourth member of the Street and Bridge Committee.
