1960-11-15 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD SEPTEMBER 15, 1960
The regular meeting of the Pearland City Council was called to
order at 8:00 P.M. in the Pearland Junior High School Board Room with the
following City Officials present:
Mayor E. T. Gibbons
Aldermen Tom Alexander, W. L. Smith, Jr.
L. C. Hawkins, W. E. Parker and
Victor A. Nolen.
Attorney Jack Harrison
The guests in attendance at the meeting were Dale D. Marnel of
the Highway Department and Merle H. Dodd.
The minutes of the previous meeting held September 1, 1960,
were read and approved as read.
First to come before the Council was Mr. Marvel with the Texas
State Highway Department, presenting their speed study for Highways # 518
and #35 within the City of Pearland. After due discussion, Mr. Marvel
agreed to present the speeds as suggested by the City Council to the State
Traffic Director. If they are acceptable, Mr. Marvel will advise the City
Council and Mr. Jack Harrison will prepare speed ordinances for the City
Council's consideration.
Mayor Gibbons discussed the possibility of building permits and
building codes. Mr. Harrison was requested to review various types of
ordinances pertaining to permits and codes and report back to the Council.
Mr. Dodd met with the Council to discuss the fire works ordinance
and the sale of fire works within the City of Pearland. He indicated that the*
ordinance passed by the City of Houston on fire works was for the purpose of
prohibiting offensive shooting of fire works and not to prohibit the actual sale
of fire crackers. He expressed a desire to negotiate some sort of agreement
to operate within the City. Mr. Dodd was furnished with a fire works ordin-
ance and was advised that City boundaries can be obtained from the County
records.
Mr. Parker discussed the street repair program and the
possibilities of additional County support for the street program. Mayor
Gibbons suggested that the Council reconsider buying material and patching
the holes in the streets that were not seal coated by the County.
With no further business to come before the meeting, the same
was adjourned at 11:30 P. M. , subject to call.
