1960-08-04 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESLa MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ' THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, HELD AUGUST 4th, 1964 The meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons on August 4th, 1966, with the following City Officials present: Mayor E. T. Gibbons Aldermen W. E. Parker, Tom Alexander L. C. Hawkins, D. L. Smith, Jr. City Attorney Jack Harrison Alderman Victor A. Nolen was reported ill. The Minutes of the previous meeting of July 21, 1960, were read and approved as read. The first matter to come before the Council was that of presenting current bills owing by the City of Pearland. The bills as presented were approved and ordered paid. The next matter to come before the Council was that of permitting the use of Texas Avenue to Mr. M. S. Drake for an indefinite period of time. The matter was discussed at length and turned over to the Street and Bridge Committee for action and recommendation to the Council at the next meeting. Mr. Drake was to be invited to the next meeting of the Council for further discussion of the matter. Mr. John Fry, with the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, showed the City a map compiled by his Company, and stated that he would let the Council have the number of maps needed without cost. The next matter to come before the Council was that of the Telephone Ordinance and rates. At the request of Mayor Gibbons, the matter was tabled. A motion was next made by Alderman Smith and seconded by Alderman Alexander that the Fireworks Ordinance be adopted A13�� to become effective immediately. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". Mayor Gibbons next reported to the Council that the Jail job was under progress and the outlined work was being done by the Turner Lumber Company. The matter of repairing chug holes in the City streets was discussed at some length, as well as the price for the various materials to be used in such repairs. The question arose as to when the Cmunty might proceed to repair the streets and it was decided without vote that the matter of repairing the streets would be delayed or continued for three or four weeks to determine whether or not the County would repair such streets, and in the event the same were not repaired that the City would proceed to take action on the matter.
