1960-07-07 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESJEW MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND HELD JULY 7, 1960 The meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons on July 7th, 1960, at 8:OO P,. M. in the Pearland Junior High School Board Room, with the following City Officials present: Mayor E. T. Gibbons Aldermen Tom Alexander, W. E. Parker, - David L. Smith, V. A. Nolen City Attorney Jack Harrison Guests in attendance were: Mr. William C. Louden and'- Mr. nd ,Mr. S. P. O'Farrell. ; The Minutes of the meeting of June 16, 1960, were r@ad= and approved. The first matter to come before the meeting was that of outstanding bills owing by the City of Pearland. Mayor Gibbons presented the bills to the Council and suggested payment be made. A motion was made by Alderman Alexander and seconded by Alderman Parker that the bills be approved as read and paid by the Treasurer. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". Mr. S. P. O'Farrell next appeared before the Council to discuss the possibility of Pearland de -annexing territory recently annexed in order that the town of Friendswood might annex the same within their boundaries. After much discussion of the matter by the Council, City Attorney Harrison suggested to Mr. O'Farrell that he have their attorney present a map of their proposal for con- sideration by the members of the Council of the City of Pearland. Alderman Alexander next made a motion that the Drainage Commission be allowed to operate mosquito fogging machine within the City Limits and that they be so advised by letter. Alderman Nolen seconded the motion, WHEREUPON, the question was asked. Aldermen Alexander, Parker and Nolen voted "AYE", with Alderman Smith voting "NO". The Ayes being in the majority, the motion carried. The next matter to come before the Council was that �i of a motion by Alderman Alexander and seconded by Alderman Nolen that a letter be prepared to the Drainage Commission requesting that curb and gutters be extended on Highway No. 518 and Highway; No. 35 and such other places when funds were available, with the City of Pearland cooperating in every possible way. WHEREUPON, the question was asked, and the motion carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". Mr. William Louden next appeared before the Council to discuss an addition which he proposes to build within the City Limits west of the railroad and north of Highway No. 518. Mr. Louden expressed an urgent need to open existing streets around Block "A", of his proposed addition, which are extensions of Plumb Street and Washington Avenue. Mo A motion was made by Alderman Smith and seconded by Alderman Parker that the letter be sent to Clinton Cunningham accepting the South block of Cunningham Drive, Mimosa Addition. WHEREUPON, the question was asked, with Aldermen Parker, Smith and Nolen voting "AYE", and Alderman Alexander voting "NO". The ayes being in the majority, the motion carried.
