16, 1960
The meeting of the City Council of the City of
Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons at
8:00 P. M. on June 16, 1960, with the following City
Officials and guests in attendance:

Mr. B. E. Griffin first appeared before' -.the council`
to discuss the garbage service in Pearland, and`exPT--e,5ged a,:
desire to improve the operation by buying a new truek'whict
would enable them to haul larger loads and would prevent
garbage and papers from blowing off the truck. In order to
purchase new equipment the Griffin Brothers desired a contract
with the City of Pearland permitting them to collect and haul
garbage.
After a discussion of Mr. Griffin's proposition, a
motion was made by Alderman Parker and seconded by Alderman
Hawkins that a contract be awarded the Griffin Brothers for a
two year period with a two year option to haul garbage for the
City. A $25.00 per year charge was set for the contract to be
paid to the City by the Griffin Brothers. WHEREUPON, the question
was asked and the motion carried, all present voting "AYE', with
no "NOES".
Fire Marshal Marvin Ellis next appeared before the
Council to discuss the Fireman's Training School to be held
at A&M College on July 17 through 22. The council members
discussed reimbursing the Fire Marshal for the expenses incurred
while attending the school for the City. A motion was then made
by Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alderman Smith that the City
of Pearland reimburse Fire Marshal Ellis in the sum of $75.00
for attending the Fireman's Training School. WHEREUPON, the
question was asked and the motion carried, all present voting
"AYE", withno"NOES".
Mr. John Fry, with the Southwestern Bell Telephone
Company, next appeared before the council to discuss damage to
telephone cables on the South side of Pearland by hunters
and indicated the telephone company desired a City permit to
lay buried cable South from Walnut StreetalongMiller Road to the
City Limits of the City of Pearland. A motion was made by
Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alderman Smith that the Bell
Telephone Company be granted a permit to lay buried cable South
from Walnut Street to the City Limits of Pearland, approximately

1,340 feet. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NO$S".
Mayor Gibbons next discussed the recent industry
moving into the City and explained that street lighting
was definitely needed in the near proximity of these
plants. After a lengthy discussion of the matter, a motion
was made by Alderman Parker and seconded by Alderman Nolen
that 2500 lumen street lights be installed at the inter-
sections of Orange Street and Austin Avenue; Orange street
and San Antonio Avenue; Jasimine Street and Texas Avenue.
WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion carried,
all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES".
There being no further business to come before the
meeting, the same was adjourned, subject to call.
