1960-03-24 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTESMINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND HELD MARCH 24, 1960 ---------------------------------------------- The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons at 7:30 P. M. in the Pearland Junior High School .,Board.Room,._on March 24, 1960, with the following City Officials present: Mayor E.T. Gibbons Alderman David,Smith: Alderman L. C. Hawkins Alderman W. E Parker Alderman Tom Alexander Alderman Victor A. Nolen City Attorney Jack Harrison The Minutes of the meeting of March 17, 1%0, were dead, corrected and approved. Mr. Bill Isaacs, County Commissioner_ of:Precinct,#, was introduced to the Council, and Mr. isaags discussed mangy of the problems confronting the City regargling strset_s ria bridges. Mayor Gibbons first instructed the Secretary to write to Texas Municipal League and inquire if any new legislation is scheduled to be reviewed by the next State Legislature that would make it a requirement of County Commissioners Court to delegate tax revenue collected within cities back to the cities for street and bridge funds. The next matter to come before the meeting was a discussion of cities owning their own gas facilities. A motion was made by Alderman Nolen and seconded by Alderman Hawkins that the Mayor appoint a committee to investigate cities.owning their own gas facilities, WHEREUPON, the question was asked, and the motion was carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". Mayor Gibbons then appointed Aldermen Nolen, Parker and Hawkins to serve on such committee. The next matter to come before the meeting was that of the area being sought for annexation to the City of Pearland as outlined in Ordinance No. 16. A motion was made by Alderman Parker and seconded by Alderman Nolen that the petition of Mr. Vernon W. Halik and eight others, being a majority of the qualified voters in the area sought to he annexed, be accepted as a part of the City of Pearland in accordance with the description and outlines of Ordinance No. 16 of the City of Pearland. WHERE- UPON, the question was asked and the motion was carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". The next matter to come before the meeting was that of an ordinance concerning the sale or distribution of beer within the City of Pearland. A motion was made by Alderman Smith and seconded by Alderman Alexander that ordinance No. 17 be adopted making it unlawful for any person to manufacture or brew for the purpose of sale or to sell or distribute beer in the City of Pearland, Texas, without first having procured a license as 3w prescribed in the Ordinance No. 17. WHEREUPON the question was asked and the motion was carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES". The next matter to come before the meeting was that of the discussion of proposed Ordinance No. 18. After a discussion of same, a motion was made by Alderman Alexander and seconded by Alderman Smith that a gross receipts ordinance be adopted for telephone companies as prescribed by Ordinance No. 18. WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion was carried, all present voting "AYE", with no "NOES".
