1960-03-17 CITY COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING MINUTES27 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND HELD MARCH 17, 1960 The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons at 7:30 P. M. in the Pearland-Junior High School Board Room on March 17, 1960, with the following City Officials present: Mayor Alderman Alderman Alderman Alderman Alderman City Attorney E. T. Gibbons L. C. Hawkins W. E. Parker David Smith Tom Alexander Victor A. Nolen Jack Harrison Guests in attendance were Mr. Clint Cunningham and Mr. Fred Fredrickson. The Minutes of the meeting of March 10th, 1960, were read and approved. Mr. Fred Fredrickson was first introduced to the Council as a prospective candidate for County Commissioner. Mr. Fredrickson expressed a desire to serve the entire precinct fairly and maintain maximum benefit from our tax dollars. It was called to the attention of the Council that the authorization for the hiring of attorney Jake Clegg was still in effect.. A motion was made by Alderman -Smith and seconded by Alderman Hawkins that the Minutes of the meeting of January 7, 1960, be revised to reflect Mr. Clegg's decision to decline accepting the position and that the minutes pertaining thereto be declared void. .WHEREUPON, the question was asked and the motion was carried, all present voting 'AYE' with no 'Noes'. A motion was next made by Alderman Alexander and seconded by Alderman Parker that the minutes of the February 4, 1960, meeting be revised to reflect Mr. Jack Harrison's position regarding his handling of City business with the Bell Telephone Company. Mr. Harrison explained that he was already retained by the Telephone Company and therefore could not fairly serve the City in this regard. WHEREUPON, the question was $sked, and the motion was carried, all present voting "AYE', with no "NOES". Mayor Gibbons next instructed Secretary Nolen to prepare a letter to Commissioner Bill Isaacs.inviting him to attend one of our Council meetings and advising that Mr. Harrison had been instructed to contact Mr. Jack Norris of Commissioner's Court regarding repairs to the County Auxiliary Jail located in Pearland. There being no further business to come before .the ueeting, the same was adjourned at 10:0n0 P. M., subject to call. est: E. T.
