MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY
OF PEARLAND HELD FEBRUARY 25, 1960
The regular meeting of the City Council of the City
of Pearland, Texas, was called to order by Mayor Gibbons at
7:30 P. M. in the Pearland Junior High.School Board Room on
February 25, 1960, with the following City officials present:

The Minutes of the meeting,of February 18th, 1960,
were read and approved.
Mr. Todd Furnace, candidate for County Commissioner,
was first introduced to the Council. Mr. Furnace.briefly
stated his activities -in Brazoria County for the past thirty
years and expressed concern for the problems confronting
the City of Pearland. Mr. -Furnace also expressed his feelings
regarding County parks, the blue water highway and a County
Old Folks Home.
A motion was next made by Alderman Smith and
seconded by Alderman Parker that the word "operated" be
deleted from the last sentence of Section 6,of Ordinance No.
7 pertaining to liquified petroleum gases. After a general
discussion of the matter, the question was asked and the motion
carried, all present voting "AYE", withno"NOES".
The next matter to come before the meeting was that
of the office of City Chief of Police. Mr. Jack Miller introduced
Mr. Cotton as a prospective candidate .for the position of City
Chief of Police, and stated that he would not desire to continue
to serve as Pearland's law enforcement officer. Mr. Cotton's
qualifications include 15 years experience as a patrolman,
police training school and past Chief of Police of Angleton,
Texas. Mr. Cotton indicated that his -past salary was $468.00
per month,plus uniforms, car and expenses. He.also indicated
$450.00 was the minimum salary acceptable for the Pearland
police job. After discussing the problem -of filling the
job .of Police Chief, Mayor Gibbons instructed all Aldermen
to investigate possible.candidates to fill the position by
people already living in Pearland.
A motion was next made by Alderman Alexander and
seconded by, Alderman Smith thatthe City of Pearland join the
Texas League of Municipalities. After a.general discussion
of the matter, the question was asked and the motion was carried,
all present voting "AYE", with No "NOES".
There being no further business to come before the
meeting, the same was adjourned at 10:30 P. M., subject to call.
