R2001-0036 03-12-01 RESOLUTION NO. R2001-36 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE GALVESTON DISTRICT OF THE U. S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ("CORPS") IN CONDUCTING ITS GENERAL REEVALUATION PROJECT ALONG CLEAR CREEK ("PROJECT"). WHEREAS, the City of Pearland ("City") is a home rule municipality located in northern Brazoria County, Texas; and WHEREAS, Clear Creek is a major drainage artery that carries floodwaters through Brazoria County to Galveston Bay; and WHEREAS, the City has been severely affected by structural and non-structural flooding along Clear Creek for over 20 years; and WHEREAS, the population explosion that has occurred in recent years in northern Brazoria County has greatly impacted the effectiveness of waterways and drainage facilities in this area; and WHEREAS, the City, on behalf of Brazoria Drainage District No. 4 and Brazoria County, has joined the Counties of Harris and Galveston as sponsors of the Project because it recognizes the critical need for improvements along Clear Creek to reduce and alleviate existing and future flooding problems in these jurisdictions; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City hereby supports the Corps in conducting its Project along Clear Creek and encourages itto proceed expeditiouslywith completion of the Project Plan and Report in an effort to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the citizenry in the Counties of Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris.
