R83-09 04-04-83 RESOLUTION NO. R83-9 A RESOLUTION AND ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS HELD IN THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, ON APRIL 2, 1983. On this the 4th day of April, 1983, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, convened in Special Session open to the public at the regular meeting place thereof with the following members present, to-wit: Tom Reid Mayor A1 Lentz Council Position One Charles R. Mack Council Position Two James E. Best Council Position Three Dennis Frauenberger Council Position Four Terry Gray Council Position Five Dorothy L. Cook City Secretary/Clerk and the following absent: none constituting a quorum, and among other proceedings had were the follow- ing: Councilman GRAY introduced a Resolution and Order and moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman and the motion carried with the adoption of the Resolution and Order prevailed by the following vote: AYES Councilman Best, Councilman Frauenber~er~ Councilman gr~y~ ~mm~lm~n Lentz and Councilman Mack NAYS:__None The Resolution is as follows: WHEREAS, there were submitted to a vote of the duly qualified resident electors of said City of Pearland on April 2, 1983, a Regular City Officers' Election for the purpose of filling the offices of Member of the Council, Position No. 1 and Member of the Council, Posi- tion No. S, and a Special Election on one Proposition. WHEREAS, at this Special Meeting of the City Council of the City of Pearland, on April 4, 1983, after date of said elections being the first meeting of the City Council to be held since said elections at which returns of said elections could be considered and final results declared. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section I. That the elections described were duly called and notice thereof given in accordance with law; that said elections were held in the man- ner required by law; that due returns of said elections have been made by the proper officers; and it appearing from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at such elections 789 valid and legal votes; and that said elections resulted in the following vote totals: FOR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL POSITION NUMBER ONE NAME OF CANDIDATE TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTES RECEIVED AL LENTZ 536 MORRIS WILSON (WRITE-IN) 1 FOR MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL POSITION NUMBER FIVE TERRY GRAY 567 PROPOSITION NO. I A CHANGE 1N THE COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR FROM $100.00 TO $300.00 PER MONTH, AND THE CITY COUNCIL FROM $75.00 TO $250.00 PER MONTH. FOR 416 AGAINST 358 Section Il. That the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, hereby officially and affirmatively declares that the results as shown above are the real and true results of the elections held on April 2, 1983, within the City of Pearland, Texas, that the candidate elected for Member of the Council Position Number One is declared to be A1 Lentz, and that the candidate elected for Member of the Council Position Num- ber Five is declared to be Terry Gray, and said above parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices, subject to taking of their oaths and filing bond as provided by the laws of the State of Texas. -2- Section III. The City Council of the City of Pearland, affirmatively declares that Proposition No. 1 is approved; and the compensation of the Mayor shall be $300.00 per month, and the compensation of members of the City Council shall be $250.00 per month, effective immediately. Section IV. It is further found and determined that in accordance with the Order of this governing body, the City Secretary posted written notice of the date, place and subject of this meeting on the bulletin board located in the City Hall, a place convenient to the public, and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at least 72 hours preceding the date of this meeting. A copy of the return of said posting shall be attached to the minutes of this meet- ing and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes.
