A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION OF
A TEXAS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GRANT FOR PEARLAND
AREA SENIOR CITIZENS GROUP.
WHEREAS, the City of Pearland, has identified a need to
build a larger building for activities pertaining to the Pear-
land Area Senior Citizens Group; and
WHEREAS, the Pearland Area Senior Citizens Group desires
to increase their multi-function activities to include one com-
plete meal per week, to provide handicraft training, games and
larger area for visitation and relaxation; and the grant will
assist in meeting such a need; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Community Affairs admin-
isters the Texas Community Development Program to assist community
development activities in the State of Texas.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
1) THAT the City of Pearland, apply for a Texas Community
Development Program grant under the terms and condi-
tions of tt~e State of Texas and shall enter into and
agree to the understandings and assurances contained
in said application.
2) THAT the City of Pearland, supports the proposed activ-
ity described above.

The Hearing was called to order by Buford Parrish, Administrative Assistant to the City
Manager.
ATTENDANCE:

PURPOSE:
A Community Development Block Grant Application for a Pearland Area
Senior Citizens Meeting Place./
Mr. Parrish advised that the City wished to file an application for a-Grant.for a- Senior
Citizens Meeting facility. The present library site and three lots back of the site
is under consideration. Bill Miller, Architect is preparing the specifications and he
has suggested the demolition of the present building due to its condition and building
a new facility. This new facility would be approximately 3,000 square feet. The
building would be placed on three lots and the parking area would take up the other three
lots. The City presently owns the building and three lots. The additional three
lots would have to be purchased. The Senior Citizens service area is basically
J. P. Precinct 8 in North Brazoria County. The aim for the grant-mould be to provide
more space,to give: the senior citizens a facility to meet, have meals, recreational
facilities, arts and crafts, and other activities relating to senior citizens.
COMMENTS:
M. 0. Knapp stated that the present facility used by the senior citizens was the Lions
Club Building and due to the space that it cannot be advertised -because the facilities
would not handle more than presently attend. Approximately 80 to 90 attend now.
Others present spoke in favor.
No person spoke in opposition.

After all present were given an opportunity to ask questions and to make couunents, the
