R83-36 10-24-83 RESOLUTION NO. R83-36 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE PASSAGE OF THE REFERENDUM ON THE 9-1-1 ELECTION TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 8, 1983. WHEREAS, citizens of many communities across the United States are able to obtain emergency assistance by dialing the number 9-1-1; and WHEREAS, under the 9-1-1 system, a citizen dials 9-1-1 to obtain all kinds of emergency assistance; police, fire, medical and in some instances, poison control, reporting of child abuse and other emergencies; and WHEREAS, the Legislature passed a Bill in the last session creating a special district for the 9-1-1 system which includes all cities and all unincorporated areas of Harris County and all cities partially in Harris County, and WHEREAS, on November 8, 1983, the registered qualified voters of the City of Pearland will be able to express their opinion of this issue; and WHEREAS, the proposed cost for this service would be approximately 20¢ per month added to the telephone bill, which is minimal for the service that would be rendered. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: That the City Council of the City of Pearland supports the passage of the 9-1-1 Referendum Election, and urges all registered qualified voters of the City to go to the polls on November 8, 1983, and express their opinion of this important issue.
