The Honorable Johnnie Arolfo, Mayor
City of League City
300 W. Walker
League City, Texas 77573
Dear Mayor Arolfo:
The residents of Green Tee Subdivision in Pearland have asked me to call
a special session of the Pearland City Council in order to adopt a resolution
of support to be sent to Judge Ray Holbrook, in behalf of their petition to
become a complete and permanent entity in this community.
Currently, as you may know, although the Green Tee Subdivision is a part
of the City of Pearland, it is not. a part of the Pearland Independent School
District; but, rather, it is a part of the Clear Creek Independent School
District. The citizens of Pearland and I feel that these residents lives are'
centered around the Pearland community and its activities, and likewise, we
feel that their children's academic activities should also be centered here.
We feel that the best interests of these children, in terms of their health,
safety, social and moral growth, parental guidance, and community participation,
can best be served by their becoming a permanent and integral part of the
Pearland Independent School District.
Bussing of these children to the Clear Creek Independent School District
poses not only a severe inconvenience and hardship on the students and parents
involved, but also on the communities through which they must be bussed.
Bussing of these children over the distances involved (approximately 32 miles
round trip) would require travel through your community during peak traffic
periods and often during pre-daylight hours. This certainly will pose severe
safety problems for your community and our children.
I would like to request that you join Pearland in adopting a like Re-
solution from the League City Council to Judge Holbrook. Because of the time
element associated with Judge Holbrook's decision, I would like to further
request that you call a special session of your council to expedite this
resolution. Judge Holbrook must receive all inputs concerning the Green Tee
petition prior to making his decision on September 3, 1974.
Your participation and support concerning this matter will be greatly
appreciated by the residents of Pearland and will be beneficial to both of •
our communities.
Sincerely,
Carlton McComb
