R76-16 07-26-76RESOLUTION NO. 76-16 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE REGULARLY EMPLOYED POLICE OFFICERS OF THE CITY TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO ANY OTHER MUNICIPALITY OR COUNTY RE- QUESTING SUCH ASSISTANCE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO JOIN A MUTUAL AID LAW ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE WITH NEIGHBORING CITIES. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas has determined that emergency situations may arise when law enforcement assistance is needed by the municipalities and/or counties in the local areas, and WHEREAS, the legislature of the State of Texas has enacted legislation through Article 999b V.A.T.S. whereby a city or county can provide assistance to another city or county when such needy city or county,by its authorized official, requests assistance in the face of such emergency, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, has determined it is in the best interest of the City of Pearland to provide for mutual emergency police aid; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: That the Mayor of the City be and is hereby authorized to provide the assistance of the regularly employed police officers of the City of Pearland, Texas, to any local municipality or county requesting such assistance, through its duly authorized officer, to aid in coping with situations where there exists in said other county or municipality a need for the services of additional law enforcement officers to protect the health, life, and property of said other county or municipality, its inhabitants, and the visitors thereto, by reason of riot, unlawful assembly characterized by the use of force and violence, or threat thereof by three (3) or more persons acting together or without lawful authority, or during time of natural disaster or man-made calamity. That the Mayor of the City of Pearland, Texas, be authorized to enter into an agreement with neighboring municipalities, to -wit: League City, Friends - wood, Seabrook, Alvin, Webster, and .any other law enforcement agency in the area, tc_form a mutual aid law enforcement task force to cooperate in the investigation of criminal activity and enforcement of the laws of this State. The assistance offered hereby or received shall be in accordance with the provisions of Article 999b of the Civil Statutes of the State of Texas as enacted by the 61st Legislature of the State of Texas, Acts 1969 and amended by the 63rd Legislature of the State of Texas, Acts 1973.
