R77-28 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE BRAZORIA COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AND PLANNING COMMISSION IN THEIR EFFORTS TO OBTAIN FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION. WHEREAS, the Brazoria County Commissioners' Court has duly appointed the Brazoria County Transportation and Planning Commission for the purpose of studying all aspects of highway transportation and safety within the County, and WHEREAS, a study by the Brazoria County Transportation and Planning Commission revealed the following: that since 1970 the Brazoria County population has increased 25%, that in the same period the motor vehicle accident rate in Brazoria County has increased 100%, that vehicular accident fatalities have increased from 35 in 1971 to 51 in 1976, and that Brazoria County vehicle registration has increased from 73,261 in 1970 to 107,000 in 1976, and WHEREAS, the annual vehicle mileage driven in Brazoria County has increased from 1.8 million miles in 1970 to over 2.3 million miles in 1975, and WHEREAS, the Brazoria County Transportation and Planning Commission plans to appear before the Texas Highway Commission to request that more State funds be made available for highway construction participation in Brazoria County, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, feels that the proposed projects are necessary for the welfare of the citizens of Pearland and are beneficial to all segments of the County, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: That this City Council supports the activity and findings of the Brazoria County Transportation and Planning Commission and urges consideration from the Texas Highway Commission in resolving these problems through proper planning and implementation of improvements to the State Highway System in Brazoria County.
