R78-24 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, ENDORSING THE BUILDING AND OPERATIONS OF A YOUNG MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION IN PEARLAND. WHEREAS, the contributions of the Young Mens and Women's Christian Associations, popularly known as YMCA's and YWCA's, to the social, educational and religious fabric of our nation are well recognized and universally applauded; and WHEREAS, their programs of education, entertainment, character building, and physical development for the youth of our country are in keeping with the highest ideals and purposes of our democratic society; exemplifying the great American tradition of doing for ourselves and providing for the needs of people without aid or instigation of government; and WHEREAS, the presence of a YMCA in a community testifies to the concerns of the community for setting the highest ethical and moral standards for their youth, and their willingness to give as required to meet these needs; and WHEREAS, such a facility requires the support of the parent YMCA/YWCA, and we hereby request the endorsement, support, guidance, and full cooperation of the national organization in providing a facility conveniently located so as best to serve Pearland; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Pearland, go on record as recognizing the need for such an organization in our community to serve our youth, and hereby endorse and encourage our citizenry to organize, build, and operate a YMCA/YWCA for the use and benefit of our citizens. That this might be accomplished, the City Council pledges their full support and cooperation. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this /24 day of A. D., 1978. ATTEST: ; City Secretaj!
