R85-16 08-12-85RESOLUTION NO. R85-16 A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEAR- LAND, TEXAS, DECLARING THEIR STRONG ENCOURAGEMENT FOR AND SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF STATE HIGH- WAY 332 BETWEEN THE CITIES OF BRAZORIA, TEXAS, AND LAKE JACKSON, TEXAS, FROM TWO (2) LANES TO FOUR (4) LANES AND FURTHER DECLARING THE URGENT NEED FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION ON THIS PROJECT. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, is cognizant of the rapidly growing population being experienced by all of Brazoria County in general and the Southern one-half (S. 1/2) of Brazoria County in particular which growth they be- lieve will only be accelerated by the imminent opening of State Highway 288 also known as the South Freeway in its extension to an intersection with State Highway 332 West of Lake Jackson, Texas; and WHEREAS, said City Council is further cognizant of the already heavy and ever increasing vehicular traffic experienced on the portion of State Highway 332 lying between the cities of Brazoria and Lake Jackson, Texas; and WHEREAS, said City Council is cognizant of the designation of that portion of State Highway 332 as an emergency evacuation route in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster and the apparent inadequancy of that route to handle the present daily vehicular traffic and its ever growing and alarming inabil- ity to handle prospective traffic in the event of an emergency; and WHEREAS, said City Council is further aware of the substan- tial and ever increasing danger posed to the citizens and property of Brazoria County by the heavy vehicular traffic now using said portion of State Highway 332; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, that said council declares their strong encouragement of and support for the proposed expansion of State Highway 332 between the cities of Brazoria and Lake Jackson, Texas, from two lanes to four lanes and further declares the urgency of going forward with such plans and expansion with all due haste in light of the concerns expressed in the preamble to this resolution, but most importantly for the safety and wellbeing of the citizens of Brazoria County, Texas.
