A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PLACEMENT OF
CERTAIN PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENTS ON THE
APRIL 5, 1986 REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION
BALLOT.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland,
Texas is desirous of placing certain proposed Charter Amendments
on the Municipal Election Ballot for April 5, 1986, for submis-
sion to the voters; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland,
Texas deems that said proposed amendments would be in the best
interest of the citizens of the City of Pearland, Texas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
That the following proposed amendments are hereby in
all things approved for submission to the voters at the next
Municipal Election, to be held April 5, 1986, and for placement
on the ballot at said election, to-wit:
Proposed Amendment
Add subsection
read as follows:
"(d) Assistant City Manager:
No. 1
(d) to Section 4.01 -- City Manager -- to
The City Manager, with the approval of the City Council,
may appoint an Assistant City Manager who shall be the
administrator of all Departments which are directly
answerable to the City Manager, with the exception of
those Departments administered by the Director of
Public Works. Such Assistant City Manager shall have
all of the powers and duties of the City Manager in the
event of the absence or disability of the City Manager."
Proposed Amendment No. 2
Omit sentence seven (7) from paragraph (1) of Section
4.09 -- Volunteer Fire Department -- which presently reads as
follows:
"The City Council may pass, with approval of the Fire Depart-
ment, such ordinances as they may deem proper for the wel-
fare of said Department."
Proposed Amendment No. 3
Omit the last sentence from paragraph two (2) of Section
4.09 -- Volunteer Fire Department -- which presently reads as
follows:
"The City Council shall also cooperate with the neighboring
communities of Brazoria County on problems of fire preven-
tion."
Proposed Amendment No. 4
Amend Section 4.11 -- Department of Public Safety -- in its
entirety, to read as follows:
"The City Council may appoint a Safety Department which shall
be an advisory coordinating committee in the matter of Public
Safety. Such committee will then consist
members, who shall be either employees of,
the City of Pearland."
