R98-40 06-08-98RESOLUTION NO. R98-40 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO THE U. S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE UNDER THE COPS MAKING OFFICER REDEPL O YMENT EFFECTIVE PROGRAM FOR EQUIPMENT TO ENHANCE THE COMMUNITY POLICING PROGRAM IN PEARLAND. WHEREAS, the City of Pearland Police Department is committed to community policing, and has demonstrated this initiative since 1994 through organizational change and innovative programs; and WHEREAS, the City Council understands that departments practicing policing work with community members can more easily identify persistent community problems, learn more about why these problems occur and, as a result, more easily address the underlying conditions that lead to these problems, so that predictable future crimes can be prevented; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage the continued development of police-citizen cooperation to control crime, maintain, order, and improve the quality of life in Pearland; and WHEREAS, funds to support community policing activities have been identified under the COPS Advancing Community Policing program to help the Pearland Police Department overcome organizational-level obstacles to successful department-wide community policing efforts; now, therefore, RESOLUTION NO. R98-40 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Manager or his designee is authorized to apply for funding and execute all necessary agreements, under the COPS /V/ak/ng O£f/cer Redep/oyment Effect/re program. Section 2. That these funds are for the purpose of procuring equipment that will enable the Police Department to overcome obstacles to successful community policing activities. Section 3. That the City's required match (25%) is hereby allocated from the City's Capital Projects Fund (Police Computers). ATTEST: PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this the 8th day of June, A.D., 1998.
