AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS,
AMENDING CHAPTER 29, DIVISION 2 OF THE CODE
OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS,
BY ADDING AND DELETING SPECIFIC PROVISIONS
CONTAINED THEREIN; AMENDING CERTAIN OTHER
SECTIONS OF CHAPTER 29 RELATING TO THE WORD
"TRAFFIC ENGINEER"; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE; AND CONTAINING OTHER PROVISIONS RELAT-
ING TO THE SUBJECT.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS:
SECTION I.
That Division 2, Article III, Chapter 29, of the Code of Ordin-
ances, City of Pearland, Texas, be and the same is hereby amended
to hereafter read as follows:
"DIVISION 2. DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND TRANSPORTATION
Section 29-51. Investigation of Traffic Conditions, accidents.
It shall be the general duty of the Director of Planning and
Transportation to conduct investigations and studies of traffic con-
ditions and to conduct investigations and analyses of traffic acci-
dents.
Section 29-52. Emergency and experimental regulations.
(a) The chief of police, by and with the approval of the Direc-
tor of Planning and Transportation, is hereby empowered to make and
enforce such emergency and/or experimental traffic regulations, for
a period not to exceed forty-eight (48) hours, as may be necessary
to prevent or correct any hazardous condition.
(b) The chief of police, by and with the approval of the City
Council is hereby empowered to make and enforce such regulations as
may be necessary to cover emergencies or special conditions. No
such temporary or experimental regulation shall remain in effect
longer than thirty (30) days unless the approval of the City Council
is renewed.
Sections 29-53---29-64. Reserved.
SECTION II.
That the term "Traffic Engineer" as used in Chapter 29 and
other Chapters of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pearland,
Texas, be and the same is hereby deleted, and all provisions of the
Code of Ordinances of the City of Pearland, Texas utilizing said
term shall hereafter be'amended and shall be read, "DIRECTOR OF
PLANNING AND TRANSPORTATION."
SECTION III.
It is the intention of the City Council, and it is hereby
ordained, that the provisions of this Ordinance shall become and be
made a part of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Pearland, Texas,
and the Code of Ordinances is hereby amended accordingly.
SECTION IV.
This Ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect
from and after its adoption on Second and Final Reading.
