HomeMy WebLinkAboutR98-30 03-23-98 RESOLUTION NO. R98-30 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, REPEALING RESOLUTION NO. R92o24 AND ESTABLISHING TERM LIMITATIONS FOR PERSONS SERVING ON VARIOUS BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS OF THE CITY NOT HAVING QUASI-JUDICIAL AUTHORITY OR NOT REQUIRING CERTIFICATION. WHEREAS, the City Council has concluded that term limitations for members of Boards and Commissions not having quasi-judicial authority or not requiring certification, would have a salutary effect on the functions of government by ensuring the infusion of fresh ideas and allowing for the growth and development of a larger class of persons who may assume leadership roles in the future; now, therefore, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That Resolution No. R92-24 is hereby repealed in its entirety. Section 2. That the City Council finds and concludes that term limitations for persons serving on Boards and Commissions not having quasi-iudicial authority or not requiring certification, shall be established. Section 3. That the City Council further finds and determines that the following rules shall apply to the appointment and reappointment of persons to the various Boards and Commissions of the City: (a) Persons serving on Boards and Commissions not having quasi-judicial authority or not requiring certification, shall be limited to two full consecutive appointed terms of office. (b) Persons serving on such Boards and Commissions may, after serving two full consecutive appointed terms of office, continue to serve until said vacancy is filled pursuant to subsection (c) below. RESOLUTION NO. R98-30 (c) Vacancies on such Boards and Commissions shall be posted not less than two weeks prior to the term limitation so that candidates may make application through the City Secretary stating their desire to serve. Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its passage and approval by the City Council.
