A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING A BRAZORIA COUNTY PLANNING TEAM TO
DEVELOP A COOPERATIVE PLANNING EFFORT TO QUALIFY AND
QUANTIFY THE NEED FOR PARKS AND OPEN SPACE IN THIS REGION,
AND APPOINTING A CITY REPRESENTATIVE TO SERVE ON THE
PLANNING TEAM.
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes the need for parks and open space to
enhance the quality of life and economic development in our region; and
WHEREAS, the opportunities provided by parks and open areas build character
in our youth, promote strong family values and promote a sense of community,
thereby providing support for personal growth, community growth, and tourism; and
WHEREAS, the political diversity of this region and county is reflected in a
strong preference for local control through numerous municipal jurisdictions,
drainage districts, a navigation district, municipal utility districts, school districts, and
county government;
WHEREAS, it is also recognized that the diversity and abundance of natural
resources extends beyond the boundary of any single jurisdiction necessitating
cooperative local planning for the County; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City of Pearland supports a Brazoria County Planning Team
to develop a cooperative planning effort to qualify and quantify the need for parks and
open space in this region.
Section 2. That the City's Parks and Recreation Director is hereby appointed
to serve as representative to the planning team for this purpose.

SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION AND POSSIBLE ACTION:
RESOLUTION FOR BRAZORIA COUNTY PARKS DEPARTMENT
The Brazoria County Parks and Recreation Department is attempting
to produce a county wide parks and open space master plan. This
will assist agencies within Brazoria County in competing for
grants from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The County Parks and Recreation Department has formed a planning
team with representatives from many cities and agencies providing
input into this project. Resolutions supporting this project are
being solicited from city councils and drainage districts. There
is no cost to the City other than staff time.
