A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS, SUPPORTING PEARLAND INDEPENDENT
SCHOOL DISTRICT'S GRANT APPLICATION TO THE HOUSTON-
GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS FOR
CONTINUATION OF THE SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER
PROGRAMS AT THE PEARLAND JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH
SCHOOL CAMPUSES.
WHEREAS, the Pearland Independent School District ("PISD") is submitting an
application to the Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments ("H-GAC") under
the Governor's Plan for Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act for the
continuation of the School Resource Officer program currently in place at the
Pearland Junior and Senior High School campuses; and
WHEREAS, the City Council understands that solutions to contemporary school
problems demand that PISD and the City continue this partnership in exploring
creative, new ways to address school safety concerns; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to encourage the development of this
cooperative to control crime, maintain order, and improve PISD's learning and working
environment; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City Council fully supports PISD's grant application to
H-GAC for the continuation of the School Resource Officer programs currently in place
at the Pearland Junior and Senior High School campuses.
Section 2. That the City Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to enter
into an agreement with PISD and to execute all necessary documents associated with
said program, as required under the grant guidelines.
