R2010-030 - 2010-02-22 RESOLUTION NO. 2010 -30 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS URGING ALVIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE, HOUSTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE, AND SAN JACINTO COLLEGE TO ENTER INTO A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE JOB TRAINING IN THE CITY OF PEARLAND. WHEREAS, a well trained work force benefits existing business in Pearland and can serve as an attraction to new businesses, and WHEREAS, Alvin Community College (ACC) Houston Community College, (HCC), and San Jacinto College (SJC) each have service areas that include a portion of the City of Pearland, and WHEREAS, ACC, HCC, and SJC each have quality, recognized job training programs that can contribute to a well educated work force, and WHEREAS, the community as a whole may benefit from each of the three colleges being able to offer classes throughout the City, and WHEREAS, an agreement among the three colleges that allows each to provide job training outside its service area, with the consent of the college in whose service area the training will be taught may be of benefit to existing and future industry, and WHEREAS, the Northern Brazoria County Education Alliance (NBCEA) has proposed a "summit" meeting of the colleges to discuss an agreement to cooperate with one another to allow each of the colleges to provide training throughout the City. NOW THEREFORE IT BE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS THAT IT URGES ACC, HCC, AND SJC TO MEET WITH CITY, PEDC, AND NBCEA OFFICIALS TO DISCUSS A COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT TO ESTABLISH TERMS AND CONDITIONS TO ALLOW EACH COLLEGE DISTRICT TO PROVIDE TRAINING THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CITY. RESOLUTION NO. 2010 -30 PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this the 22 day of February, A.D., 2010.
