AN ORDINANCE ALTERING THE PRIMA FACIE SPEED
LIMITS ESTABLISHED FOR VEHICTFS UNDER THE
PROVISIONS OF ARTICTF 6701D, VERNON'S 'TEXAS
CIVIL STATUTES, UPON THE BASIS OF AN ENGINEERING
AND TRAFFIC INVESTIGATION, UPON CERTAIN STREETS
AND HIGHWAYS, OR PARTS THEREOF, WITHIN THE
CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, AS SET
OUT IN THIS ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING A PENALTY
OF A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200 FOR THE VIOLATION OF
THIS ORDINANCE
WHEREAS, Article 6701D, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes,
provides that whenever the governing body of the City shall de-
termine upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation
that any prima facie speed therein set forth is greater or less
than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist
at any intersection or other place or upon any part of a street
or highway within the City, taking into consideration the width
and condition of the pavement and other circumstances on such
portion of said street or highway, as well as the usual traffic
thereon, said governing body may determine and declare a reasonable
and safe prima facie speed limit thereat or thereon by the passage
of an ordinance, which shall be effective when appropriate signs
giving notice thereof are erected at such intersection or other
place or part of the street or highway, now therefore,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. Upon the basis of an engineering and traffic
investigation heretofore made as authorized by the provisions of
Article 6701D, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, the following prima
facie speed limits hereafter indicated for vehicles are hereby
determined and declared to be reasonable and safe; and such speed
limits are hereby fixed at the rate of speed indicated for vehicles
traveling upon the named streets and highways, or parts thereof,
described as follows:
(a) Along FM 518 (W. Broadway) from the west city limit to
a point 528 feet east of the west city limit, a distance
of approximately 0.100 mile, 55 miles per hour;
(b) Along FM 518 (W. Broadway) from a point 528 feet east
of the west city limit to a point 580 feet west of
Austin Street, a distance of approximately 0.640
mile, 50 miles per hour;
Along FM 518 (W. Broadway) from a point 580 feet west

of Austin Street to a point 132 feet west of Washington,
a distance of approximately 0,280 mile, 40 miles per
hour;
(d) Along FM 518 (W. Broadway) from a point 132 feet west
of Washington to a point 185 feet east of SH 35 (Main)
a distance of approximately 0.280 mile, 35 miles per
hour;
Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from a point 185 feet east
of SH 35 (Main) to a point 238 feet west of Old Alvin
Road, a distance of approximately 0.515 mile, 30 miles
per hour;
Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from Grand Boulevard to
Galveston, a distance of approximately 0.131 mile,
a school speed zone, 20 miles per hour, when so
signed;
Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from a point 238 feet west
of Old Alvin Road to a point 158 feet east of Sherwood
Drive, a distance of approximately 0.530 mile, 40 miles
per hour;
(h) Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from a point 158 feet east
of Sherwood Drive to a point 2561 feet east of Westminister,
a distance of approximately 0.650 mile, 50 miles per hour;
Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from a point 2561 feet east
of Westminister to the east city limits, a distance of
approximately 2.965 miles, 55 miles per hour;
Along FM 518 (E. Broadway) from a point 528 feet west
of Regal Oaks to a point 79 feet east of West Circle
Drive, a distance of approximately 0.200 mile, a
school speed zone, 45 mi7>es per hour, when so signed.
Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of
this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon.
conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not more than Two
Hundred Dollars ($200).
