A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE UPCOMING ALVIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
DISTRICT BOND ELECTION.
WHERAS, the Alvin Independent School District covers 250 square miles in
northern Brazoria County and is one of the fastest growing school districts in the Houston
Metropolitan Area, and;
WHEREAS, the District Facility Advisory Committee, consisting of parents, local
citizens and school staff met for six months to study the needs of the district and made a
recommendation to the Alvin ISD Board of Trustees that they call for a bond election, and;
WHEREAS, the student population of the school district is increasing at a rate of
approximately an Elementary School (700 students) per year, and;
WHEREAS, quality education for today's children and youth is critically important to
the vitality of our community, the strength of our future workforce and the continued
positive economic growth of our area, and
WHEREAS, the Alvin ISD Board of Trustee has called a Bond Election on Tuesday,
November 3, 2009, to construct new school buildings, acquire future school sites, renovate
and expand existing facilities, purchase new school buses and thereby accommodate the
district's increasing student population; therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City Council hereby supports the passage of the Alvin
Independent School District's Bond Election on November 3, 2009
