R96-31 06-10-96RESOLUTION NO. R96-31 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY FOR AND EXECUTE ALL AGREEMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE AUTOMOBILE THEFT PREVENTION AUTHORITY (ATPA) GRANT PROGRAM AND COMMITTING FUNDS TO SHARE IN THE COST OF SAID PROJECT. WHEREAS, vehicle theft is a problem throughout the State of Texas, producing losses of up to $800 million to consumers and insurance agencies; and WHEREAS, auto theft prevention programs in the Houston Metropolitan Area'and Harris County are resulting in increased auto theft activity in surrounding communities, including the City of Pearland; and WHEREAS, the City's proximity to the Houston Metropolitan Area, its rapid development, and accessibility through improved thoroughfares such as Beltway 8 and the extension of FM 518, with its proposed link to Hughes Road and Sagemont, may result in increased auto theft activity; and WHEREAS, the City of Pearland wants to prevent and deter auto theft activity in the area by participating in the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority grant program; now, therefore, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to apply for and execute all agreements associated with the Automobile Theft Prevention Authority grant program. Section 2. That the City Council commits to providing the City's share of the project's costs through both "In-kind" services and cash donations for the funding level set below: RESOLUTION NO.
