The City Council of the City of Pearland, Texas, convened
in AeCi lW___ session at the City Hall within said City on the
719 day of1966, with the following members

when the following business was transacted:
The Mayor introduced an Ordinance which was read in full.
Alderman IVn L -A_ made a motion that the ordinance be adopted
as read. Alderman ( # /LC.. seconded the motion for adoption of
the ordinance. The motion, carrying with it the adoption of the
ordinance, prevailed by the following vote:
AYES: Aldermen Cogbill, Calvin, Nolen, Ellis and Wasek.
NOES: None.
The Mayor thereupon announced that the motion had duly
and lawfully carried, and that the ordinance had been duly and law-
fully adopted. The ordinance thus adopted follows:
AN ORDINANCE APPOINTING A BOARD OF EQUALIZATION FOR
THE YEAR 1966; PRESCRIBING SAID BOARDIIS DUTIES,
COMPENSATION AND OATH; FIXING THE TIME FOR THE FIRST
MEETING; PROVIDING THAT Thh ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE
EFFECT FROM AND AFTER ITS ADOPTION; AND CONTAINING
OTHER PROVISIONS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT
WHEREAS, it is necessary that a Board of Equalization for
the City of Pearland, Texas, be appointed to examine, correct,
equalize, appraise and approve the Assessors lists and books of
rendered and unrendered property within said City: Therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS:
Section 1:
That J. B. Purcell, J. D. Satterwhite and Carlton McComb
with W. E. Parker as alternate, each being a qualified voter, a
resident and a property owner of the City of Pearland, Texas,
are hereby appointed as the Board of Equalization for the City of
Pearland, Texas, for the year 1966, and are to perform the duties
of such Board of Equalization for the City of Pearland, Texas, as
prescribed by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, and
ordinances of the City of Pearland, Texas; said Board shall receive
all the assessment lists or books of the Assessor of the City of
Pearland, Texas, for examination, correction, equalization,
appraisement and approval, and shall do any and all other things
necessary to equalize the value of all property in said City; the
members of said Board of Equalization shall receive as compensation
the sum of $ 10,0 for each and every day they are actively
engaged in such work.
Section 2:
Before said Board shall enter upon its duties, each
member thereof shall subscribe to the following oath of office:
I, as a member of the Board of Equalization of the City
of Pearland, Texas, for the year 1966, hereby solemnly swear:
That in the performance of my duties as a
member of such Board for said year, I will not vote
to allow any taxable property to stand assessed on
the tax rolls of said City of Pearland for said year
at any sum which I believe to be less than its true
market value, or if it has no market value, then its
real value; that I will faithfully endeavor and as
a member will move to have each item of taxable
property which I believe to be assessed for said year
at less than its true market value, or real value,
raised on the tax rolls to what I believe to be its
true cash market value, if it has a market value,
and if not, then to its real value; and that I will
faithfully endeavor to have the assessed valuation of
all property subject to taxation with said City of
Pearland, stand upon the tax rolls of said City, for
said year at its true cash market value, or if it has
no market value, then its real value. I solemnly swear
that I have read and understand the provisions contained
in the Constitution and laws of this State relative
to the valuation of taxable property, and that I will
faithfully perform all of the duties required of me
under the Constitution and laws of this State. So
help me God.
Section 3:
The City Secretary of the City of Pearland shall act as
Secretary of the Board of Equalization, and shall attend each
meeting of said Board.
Section 4:
The Board of Equalization shall hold its first meeting
on the 12th day of August, 1966.
Section 5:
All ordinances, resolutions or parts of ordinances or
resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed
insofar as they conflict herewith.
Section 6:
This ordinance shall take effect and be in force from
and after its adoption.
