ORDINANCE NO. 115B
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PEARLAND PLUMBING
CODE, ORDINANCE NUMBEti 115-B, HERETOFORE
PASSED BY THE CITY OF PEARLAND, BRAZORIA
COUNTY, TEXAS, SUCH AMENDMENT PROVING THAT THE
CITY OF PEARLAND CAN PROVIDE CERTAIN
SPECIFICATIONS FOR PLUMBING INSTALLATIONS
AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR GAS PIPING AND GAS
APPLIANCES ON CERTAIN PROPERTIES AND PROPERTY
OWNERS AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY:
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 115- , of the
City of Pearland, Brazoria County, Texas, being the
Plumbing Code, does not provide adequate specifications
for plumbing installations and for gas piping and gas
appliances in construction of certain buildings and
residence.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
That said Ordinance Number 115-B is hereby
amended as follows:
ARTICT,R IV
SECTION 2: SPECIFICATIONS FOR PLUMBING INSTALLATIONS
(9-A) Cast Iron Soil Pipe and Fittings for
soil, waste, vent conductors, building drains or sewers,
tar -coated unless otherwise specified, shall conform to
Cs-188 or comparative standards.
Joints for Cast Iron soil pipe and fittings
with hubs and beaded spigots shall be made with caulked
lead and oakum as specified in Chapter 4, ASA A40.8;°
Joints for cast iron soil pipe and fittings
with hubs and plain end spigots shall be made with caulked
lead and oakum as specified in Chapter 4, ASA A40.8-;, or
by using positive double -sealed elastomeric compression -
type gaskets-:-, conforming to ASTM C 564. Service pipe

shall be joined with service gaskets and extra heavy
pipe with extra heavy gaskets.
* Caulked joints - caulked joints for cast-iron
bell and spigot soil pipe shall be firmly
packed with oakum or hemp and filled with
molten lead not less than one inch deep', and
not to extend more than 1/8 inch below rim
of hub. No paint, varnish, or other coating
shall be permitted on the jointing material
until after the joint has been tested and
approved.
** Positive double -sea; elastomeric compression -
type joints are joints which are sealed by
deformation of a one-piece double -seal gasket.
When the joint is made, a positive seal is
effected by the compression of the elastomer
between the external face of the spigot and
the internal face of the hub.
ARTICLE IV
SECTION 18 SPECIFICATIONS FOR PLUMBING INSTALLATIONS
(44-A) There shall be a T-handle roundway stop
and waste 3/4 or larger, at least six (6") inches above
ground at the structure to control all water in building.
The plumber to furnish coupling at meter side of
stop.
The service line from meter to structure must be
sized to furnish enough water to each fixture without
having a pressure drop. Minimum size pipe 3/4 " copper
or plastic. Plastic pipe must conform to A.S.T.M. standards
of schedule 40 or better P.V.C. The service beyond the
stop and waste shall be 3/4 " galvanized or copper, type L
hard or soft drawn pipe to the bathroom and not more than
three (3) fixtures shall be supplied off a half -inch pipe.
All hot water pipe shall be a 3/4 " galvanized or copper
from heater to bath. Water service and other underground
pipe shall be buried at least twelve inches (12") to a point

at side of slab or just under building then may rise
and be strapped to sills or floor joist securely at
proper intervals. Each fixture shall be controlled
with a stop above floor.
ARTICLE V
SECTION 19 SPECIFICATIONS FOR GAS PIPING AND GAS
APPLIANCES
(10) No underground yard or service line
hereinafter installed shall be less than one (1) inch
pipe, to be coated and wrapped per A-1 specifications.
All underground fittings to be wrapped accordingly, and
the take -off on the house side of the meter may be not
less than one (1") inch to the heating unit. Branch
lines for ranges or cook stoves shall be not less than
three-quarter (3/4") inch and shall be furnished with a
master lever handle stop. Risers or branch lines of
one-half (1/2") inch pipe shall not be more than ten (10)
feet in length. Lead piping must not be used under
any circumstances. No bushings shall be installed in
gas fittings. Unions except for connecting cook stoves
or other appliances shall be avoided and no gasket union
will be allowed on gas connection of any kind. All gas
pipe must be properly reamed and the inside free from
obstruction before being put in use. All house lines
must be strapped securely to joists every eight (8`)
feet and at the end of each branch. Gas pipe shall not be

installed in or under a concrete floor slab. AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
