A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS, APPROVING AND SUPPORTING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE
PROPOSED SENATE BILL BY SENATOR TOM HAYWOOD RETURNING
FIVE CENTS FROM EVERY DOLLAR OF THE TEXAS STATE LOTTERY
TICKET SALES TO THE CITY OR COUNTY IN WHICH THE TICKET IS
SOLD.
WHEREAS, the Texas Lottery Commission has conducted the Texas Lottery
since its implementation in 1992; and
WHEREAS, Senator Tom Haywood has proposed a senate bill to be presented
in the 1 997 Legislative Session' of the Texas senate that will require the Texas Lottery
Commission to return five cents of every lottery sales dollar to the city (or county if
the sales transaction occurred in an unincorporated area) where the sale was
transacted; and
WHEREAS, the state lottery ticket sales in Brazoria County during the calendar
year 1995 totalled $35,989,656, this proposed bill would have returned to the cities
and county of Brazoria County a total of $1,799,483; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City of Pearland does hereby adopt an official Resolution
approving and supporting the acceptance of the proposed senate bill by Senator Tom
Haywood returning five cents from every dollar of the Texas state lottery ticket sales
to the city or county in which the ticket is sold.
