R96-54 11-11-96 RESOLUTION NO. R96-54 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO THE HOUSTON-GALVESTON AREA COUNCIL FOR INCLUSION IN THE REGION'S METROPOLITAN LONG RANGE TRANSPORTATION PLAN FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A GRADE SEPARATION AT MAGNOLIA STREET; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROJECT AND TO ALLOCATE CURRENT FUNDS AND ANTICIPATED BOND REVENUES FOR COSTS ASSOCIATED 'WITH THE PROJECT. WHEREAS, mobility from east Pearland to west Pearland requires crossing the Burlington North Santa Fe Railway; and WHEREAS, the average number of trains per day through Pearland is 30 with an average train length of 5,000 feet with potential train traffic by the year 2000 of 60 trains per day; and WHEREAS, the increased train traffic also increases the percentage of train-related automobile accidents and fatalities; and WHEREAS, the volume of automobile traffic necessitates the construction of an overpass to alleviate the congestion and train-related accidents caused by the Burlington North Santa Fe Railway; now, therefore, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Manager is authorized to submit a proposal to the Houston-Galveston Area Council for inclusion in the region's Metropolitan Long Range Transportation Plan for the construction of a grade separation at Magnolia Street. Section 2. That the City Manager or his designee is further authorized to execute all documents necessary to facilitate the Project. Section 3. The costs associated with the Project will be allocated from current funds and anticipated bond revenues. PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this ?/'~ day o~, A.D., 1996.
