A RESOLUTION AND ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS, ORDERING THE HOLDING OF A RUNOFF
ELECTION ON THE 3RD DAY OF JUNE, 2000, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ELECTING A COUNCILMEMBER (POSITION TWO) FOR THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS; ESTABLISHING POLLING PLACES; NAMING
CLERKS; AND ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES FOR SAID RUNOFF
ELECTION.
WHEREAS, a General Election was held within the City on May 6, 2000, for
purposes of electing Two Councilmembers (Position Two (2) and Position Four (4); and
WHEREAS, the State Election Laws provide that a Runoff Election shall be held if
no candidate receives the votes required to be elected in an election requiring a majority
vote; and
WHEREAS, in order to comply with State Election laws, a Resolution and Order
should be passed ordering the call of the Runoff Election, establishing procedures to be
followed in said Runoff Election and to designate the voting places of said Runoff Election;
now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED AND ORDERED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PEARLAND, TEXAS:
SECTION I.
That a Runoff Election of the City of Pearland, Texas, shall be held in said City on
the 3rd day of June, 2000, for the purpose of electing the following official for said City, to-
wit:

SECTION II.
Voting for Brazoria County Election Precincts 12, 21,26, 28, 29, 36, 40, 46, 47, 51,
58, 61 and 62, Harris County Election Precincts 537 and 0131, and Ft. Bend County
Election Precinct 2003 shall be held at the Melvin Knapp Activity Buildinq, 2425 S. Grand
Blvd., Pearland, Texas. The polls on said election day shall be open from 7:00 A. M. until
7:00 P.M.
SECTION III.
Inez Farmer is hereby appointed as Presiding Judge and Helen Horton as Alternate
Presiding Judge. The Presiding Judge shall appoint the necessary clerks to assist her
which shall be not less than two (2) nor more than nine (9) clerks. Notice of appointment
of presiding Judge shall be in accordance with Section 32.009 of the Texas Election Code.
SECTION IV.
In accordance with the Texas Election Code, early voting by personal appearance
shall be conducted each weekday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. at
Pearland Citv Hall, 3519 Liberty Drive, Pearland, Texas 77581-5416. The period for early
voting by personal appearance shall begin on the 20th day before election day and
continue through the 4th day before election day. If the 20th day for beginning the period
of early voting is a Saturday, Sunday, official City holiday, or legal State holiday, the period
will begin on the next regular business day. The above designated place for early voting
is also the early voting clerk's mailing address to which ballot applications and ballots voted

by mail may be sent. Late voting by sick or disabled voters after close of regular early
voting period shall be in accordance with Chapter 102 of the Texas Election Code.
SECTION V.
Young Lorfing is hereby appointed Clerk for early voting, and Melissa Harris, Lisa
Jones, Wendy Standorf, and Mary Hickling are hereby appointed Deputy Clerks for early
voting.
SECTION VI.
In accordance with the Texas Election Code, it is hereby determined that electronic
voting systems shall be used in the above-mentioned election for all voting, including early
voting by personal appearance and by mail.
SECTION VII.
Inez Farmer is hereby appointed as the Presiding Judge of the Early Voting Ballot
Board for said election. The Presiding Judge shall appoint the necessary clerks to assist
her which shall be not less than two (2) nor more than nine (9).
SECTION VIII.
The above called Runoff Election shall be held in accordance with the Election Code
of the State of Texas and only resident qualified voters of the City of Pearland shall be
eligible to vote at said Runoff Election.

SECTION IX.
Notice of the above ordered Runoff Election shall be given in accordance with the
terms and provisions of Chapter 4 of the Texas Election Code and the City Secretary is
hereby instructed to have said notice posted and/or published in accordance with said
Chapter 4.
SECTION X.
Immediately after said Runoff Election is held, the officer holding the same shall
make known results of the returns thereof to the City Council in accordance with the Texas
Election Code.
SECTION XI.
The order in which the names of the candidates are to be printed on the ballot shall
be determined by a drawing by the City Secretary as provided by Section 52.094 of the
Texas Election Code.
SECTION XII.
The City Secretary is hereby authorized and instructed to provide and furnish all
necessary election supplies to conduct said Runoff Election.
