WHEREAS, the Pearland Independent School District is submitting an application to the Houston-Galveston Area Council of Governments ("H-GAC") under the Governor's Plan for Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act for the continuation of the School Resource Officer program; and WHEREAS, the City Council understands that solutions to contemporary school problems demand that the school district and the Police Department form a partnership to explore creative, new ways to address school safety concerns; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to continue the development of police- school district cooperation to control crime, maintain order, and improve Pearland Independent School District's learning and working environment; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS: Section 1. That the City Council fully supports Pearland Independent School District's grant application to H-GAC for the continuation of the School Resource Officer program at the Pearland Junior High and High School campuses.
