A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND,
TEXAS, ENDORSING IMPROVEMENTS TO IVIYKAWA ROAD AND NEW
CONSTRUCTION OF A ROAD AND RAILROAD OVERPASS ON AN
EXTENSION OF THE ALIGNMENT OF FM 2234 IN THE CITY OF
PEARLAND.
WHEREAS, there is a great need for improvements to Mykawa Road and
construction of a road and railroad overpass on an extension of the alignment of
FM 2234; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Pearland strongly believes that these
improvements would be of great benefit to economic development and public safety;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Pearland Thoroughfare Plan calls for said improvements
to be made; and
WHEREAS, the imminent opening of the Beltway 8 Toliway and recent industrial
expansion will have a dramatic impact on the traffic volume and patterns within the
City of Pearland; and
WHEREAS, the completion of said improvements may allow the Knapp Road
at-grade railroad crossing, one of the most deadly crossings in the State, to be
abandoned; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pearland has commissioned and received a favorable
feasibility study for an overpass between Mykawa Road and State Highway 35
(Main Street); and

WHEREAS, the Pearland Economic Development Corporation has authorized the
issuance of certificates of obligation not to exceed 85,000,000.00 for the costs
associated with this project; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pearland recognizes that it will be responsible to provide
rights-of-way necessary to construct said improvements; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PEARLAND, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City Council authorizes the staff and City Officials to proceed
to obtain funding from the Texas Department of Transportation Commission.
Section 2. The City Council commits its revenues and value of right-of-way
to be used as its match when submitting documents for the funding request.
Section 3. The City Council authorizes the City Manager to submit such
documents as required by the Texas Department of Transportation Commission.
